I am exhausted, still.
Last night, I went to go see Schrek 2 with Dina and her husband Matt, Michelle, and Brian from my class. I got ahold of a few others, but they were unavilable for various reasons. We also had a couple of drinks, before and after the show. Beforehand, we were told that it wasn't going to be shown until 10:30, so we decided to kill time at a local student pub. Of course, by the time we had our drinks (there was bad service last night), it was time to get back. We got in a hair past 10:30, and of course, it was already started. There was a problem with the speakers as well, so that there was crackling static after every line. It was pretty distracting. But it was free! At least in the sense that I have already paid for it, anyway. Hurray for student fees.
Afterwards, we went to a different pub, save for Brian, who had to be up early the next morning to drive. More on that later. We had a drink or so each, and some snacks. A huge coackroach crawled across the table, but at least it didn't come out of the food. I don't think it was even that big. I got a ride home, which was a nice change from walking everywhere. I was home and in bed by about 1:30.
This morning, I awoke at the ungodly hour of 4:45. I was out of bed by shortly after five, running around like (not with ;) a chicken with my head cut off. I rushed up to Eller House to met Brian and Dr. Babbits, and we took off to Hertford.
Dr. Babbits has had an ongoing obsession with a specific kind of boat that was used in the North Carolina waterways throughout much of the historic period. So, he found a group to inspire to get a Periauger made. They didn't have any archaeological evidence, but plenty of historical records. Hertfordt is going to be the boat's permanent home, since the project is associated with a local historic site. The boat was finished up about a week ago, and they have been slowly bringing it down the coast, sailing or towing it as necessary. They had a few little mishaps (they originally had hollow masts, but one broke under the wind, and it had to be replaced with a solid one), but it finally made it home this morning. Dr. Babbits was one of nine people who sailed it in to harbour, all wearing historical dress. I bought a disposable camera, and if I am lucky, some of the pictures will turn out alright.
It was neat, but by the time I got back home around 12:30, I was dead tired. I slept until 3:30. I am still dead tired. The library is only open until 6 tonight, too, so I am not going to get up there. It looks like tonight will be another one for Thucydides. I may get through enough of it to spit out a review, which will give me a week to work on some other projects. I need to have a bibliography in to Dr. Swanson by Thursday, which will mean more library hours. I will probably go up there tomorrow after Perseity, in fact, since it is open until 2 AM on Sundays.
Right now, I think I am going to crawl back in to bed for another hour or so, and then get myself some dinner before I try and make myself do any reading.
