I went to see the Chronicles of Riddick with joel tonight. It was a fun movie! Think of it as a gaming module, and you'll not be dissapointed. It had good action, though with some weird camera effects that were sometimes a little distracting. I liked the bad guys, although they are Hardcore Gothic Space Mormon Borgs. They made me think a little of the death Elemental race from [livejournal.com profile] xypharan 's D&D setting, especially in some of their unexplained comments (Like how they call humans breeders). the world seems complex, but they don't generally extrapolate about it just to show off how much time they spent thinking it up, so it just ebcomes a solid setting. A lot of things are just implied, and you have to pay attention (not too hard though) to understand how some things work. I like how they used the surviving characters from Pitch Black as well.

It also amuses me how it meant Vin Diesel (biggest geek in the movie buisness!) got Dame Judy Dench to play D&D!. Also, the effects they used forher are pretty sweet :D And check out Eomer's funky mohawk!

The Chronicles of Riddick article is fun, except I have one quibble: the Romans didn't speak Roman, dammit! >_<

(I *so* need a "Who are you calling *deficient*?" icon...)
