So, last night I went to Leeds for my dance thing, and had oodeles of fun. I did manage to wear the white pants, by pinning up the waistband a bit.
The prices have gone up a bit, which is fair, because they were amazingly low. The super-excellent juice was quite a bit more expensive this time (if I am remembering properly!), but it may be because strawberries are no longer in season. It tastes kinf of like a combincation of a strawberry and orange Julius, only not frozen. I think it's got orange juice and tropicl fruit juice form a bow, fresh strawberries and some kind of sugar, blended together. I had a lamb brochette a a bitty little salad too, which was tasty.
The dancing was slow to get started, and the service slowed down to agrind after a while. I think we just overwhelm them, myself. They are a relatively small place, and I don't think they generally get such huge crowds (like 30 dancers or more plus hangers-on). So they lose track of people's orders. Mary had to wait a foolish lenght of time for a piece of cake. She finally got it when I went down and asked one of the waiters. Then he took it out of the case in front... *sigh*. The cake itself was a sort of sponge cake, and in the end I thnk she decided it wasn't worth it. I suspect it came from a box. No, I lie. I saw the boxes. Another Sheffield person who I know (Erica) also had a foolish wait for her actual food, which I think was more satisfying when it came.
Anyway, they had some problems getting the music set up, too, but once things got underway, I just didn't want to stop! There were live drummers as well as canned music, which was really awesome. It took Mary a bit of coaxing at first to get up and dance, and some of the other newer dancers who had come with us, but once they were up, they relaized it's addictive fun.
And then, one of the staff boys danced for us. He was actually really really good! Kinda cute too... His boss litterally made him dance until his shift was done and he had to leave! He was a good sport about it, though, and I repeat, a very good dancer. And it is always fun to watch boys dance :D
We stayed there until about 12:30, when most of our party (except me, and maybe Cis, our driver) were tired out. And technically we were supposed to be done at twelve... Then we had the fun of getting out of Leeds... much easier than navigating *in* to the City of The One Way Traffic Loop, though...
The thing that makes this event is the atmosphere. There is low seating with lots of cusions, so Mary and I, and other, got to practice the lost art of Lounging Dramatically! It helps when you have dance-y clothes on, too :D I have some pictures from the last gig too, maybe I'll get them scanned...
Anyway, as I said, oodles of fun, and they are hoping to have another one in may or June depending on how the football (soccer) season stuff goes... I'll be there with bells on... maybe even litterally :D
When I came home, I came right online, as tired as I was, and joined the final few hours of Elves in Space. Poor Aliss, she doesn't get to spend nearly as much time in Engineering as she'd ike anymore, and never has any time to herself. This captaining stuff is awful demanding :o I'm not sure the crew likes her style much either, but, whatever. I don't see any of them jumping forward to volunteer for the position ;D And I haven't fallen victim to the Curse yet, whereby we loose all our captains because the PC's stop being able to make it to sessions... Not until July, anyway, when I'll be on excavation for three weeks! I'll think f something for then, though. For this session, I'd e-mailed the GM an agenda of things to get done, because I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it at all...
Anyway, enough ranting, this entry is long enough!
