Speaking of things that are not fast, I am running a virus scan on my computer right now, and it is being slower than a turtle going uphill through cold molasses. And racing the molasses, and losing. Why am I doing this? Well, I have some sort of thingy on my computer which is giving me popups from sites which should not have them, and Ad-aware couldn't find the culprit. So I'm hoping maybe it will register on this. IN other news, I only actually *installed* this free virus checking program lst week, because my computer was being contantly extra slow, and it found two things, and removed them both. One of them was one of those backdoor trojan dealies, and the checker removed the program, but not the instructiuons in my rundll code to open it at startup. So now whenever I boot up, I get a message saying 'bla bla file was not found' and nothing else will load until I click 'okay'. And since my computer is slow on good days, and I hve develloped the habit of wandering off to do other things while I wait for it to load, this is rather anoying. How do I get rid of that, anyone?

Other things... This past weekend, joel brought over the DVD set of Firefly, Joss Whedon's other show. And I was really really iompressed. It was so good! Well written, well acted, well conceived.... I haven't seen it all and I'm already bitter it was cancelled so early. this tends to happen to me a lot...SHows I like tend to be a little off-beat and don't always make it past teir first season. examples: Profit, Roar, Crusade, and Once a Thief. I'm sure there have been others as well. But with Firefly there has been talk of a movie. Joel suggested that if it did rerally well in DVD sales, they might bring it back, like they are doing with The Family GHuy. But really, it is easier to do that with a cartoon. The Internet tells me that a good chunk of the Firefly cast have since gone on to other things.

"When I pitched the show, I said it was about nine people living in the blackness of space and seeing nine different things. That's what I'm fascinated by, how they all react. They must make decisions that are horrific to people who aren't fighting for their lives every day. It's about a group of people who are living hand-to-mouth, and are heroes, day-to-day." - Joss Whedon

I am supposed to be going out to dinner with mom and Hazel tonight, but I'm not sure when, or to where. hazel adn I went to the Burrito on Monday to get free cake and ice cream, so maybe somewhere else this time.... maybe ^-^

Life apart from that... I've been wrioting again, this not not porn. I want to finish a story I started sometime last year. I stopped because I could figure out what I needed to do to get to the ending I wanted from where I was. I'm not much clearer now but I've decided just to push on through until I get there. After that, well... I have lots of ideas for stories, but one that is starting to birth itself has really intrigued me, so I think I may go there next., I considering seeing if any of my other writting friends mioght be interested in writting with me? Just as an experiment... It involves an evil enchanter, a flock of girls who have no hearts, and a poor ordinary sucker. Like a fairly tale. i think it could be good. I don't have many details, just vague concepts so far.

Anyway, that is just about everything that I can think of. All my online gaming continues to rock out, but that is not news, but is instead the norm. Yay!

Firefly = much great goodness. I love how the evil from the last season of Buffy and Angel were cast in major roles. And River Tam was the ballet dancer in that episode of Angel where they all go to the ballet. I never got to see all of Firefly, due to my leaving Britain in the middle of the Sci Fi channel showing it, but I do plan to get the DVDs eventualy. There are rumors of a movie.

Your virus checker is unlikely to find pop-up crap. However, if Ad-aware can't find it, usually Spybot-Search&Destroy can (Used to be called just Spybot, I imagine the tagline was added because people might mistake it for spyware if they don't know what it is). You can get it off of http://security.kolla.de which appears to redirect now to http://www.safer-networking.org/. Basically if one of these anti-spyware programs doesn't catch it, the other will typically. Or more accurately, I don't know of anything that has made it past both (but then again, how would I know? ;))

I'm not sure about the ok dialog... maybe if you look in your windows startup menu or fiddle with your registry. Keep in mind, though, I take no responsibility for anything that may get mucked up in the process of this, especially since I can't examine your system myself. Of course, a complete reinstall might solve that and get rid of any other lingering bad crap too...

Firefly was pretty interesting. The Sci-fi Western has been a style that I've usually found works out well (what with space being a new frontier). Once a Thief was good too. Regular doses of John Woo action sequences? I'm there. Produced in Canada? Go for it.

Two negatives = one positive... "not not porn" <-> "porn". :)

... p0rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn... ^_^

Try CWShredder (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html). You might have Coolweb infestation, it got past my defenses and drove me nuts for weeks before I figured it out.

this may sound silly, and i really know little about computers, but if you remove you temporary internet files/cookies before you do the virus scan it goes much quicker. sorry if this sounds obvious, just trying to help.

Personally ive always favoured the five pound lump hammer/concussive impact method of fixing technology, sort of kill or cure but i never was very subtle. Less destructively Spybot has indeed been seen to work well as we use it to clean up our office pc's now and then
