Yes, I am back, you may all bask in my gloriousness once again :D I'm sure you all missed me desperately for the whole, hmmm three days I was gone? And *especially* you missed my incredibly frequent updates, I'm certain.
So, do I have anything interesting to relate? Well, alright, not really. I do have an older anecdote that I forgot to stick in here before I left, but I'll get it out of here now. It is The Saga of the Out 2 Lunch Christmas Dinner Outing.
We had been discussing for the past couple of weeks what exactly we were going to do for Christmas this year. There are only two employees, myself and Frankie, plus Lisa, who owns the place. Last year, we were disorganized, and it was only Lisa and I who wound up going out for drinks after work one Friday, and I was only there temporarily. This year, we thought that going out for a nice dinner somewhere sounded like a good plan, but we left the actual organization of the event right to the last minute. We knew that the times we could go were limited because we were busy, and Frankie was going away both for Christmas proper, and the weekend before. We also couldn't decide on a place. We wanted to go somewhere fancy so we could dress up a bit, and have nice food. Frankie gave us bad reports from Brunos, since the chef had changed recently (reports from some other customers reinforced this, unfortunately), none of us knew anything about the Governor's room (I was supposed to ask Hazel for details but kept forgetting), and Lisa has something (I don't remember what) against Brewbakers. Frankie is also a quasi-vegetarian, in that she just doesn't *like* meat (chicken is an occasional exception), and she doesn't like fish or seafood either. So, finally, last Monday, we decided that we had that one night to decide what to do. We settled on McGuiness Landing, and Lisa called and made reservations for that day at 5:30. This will be significant later.
So, Fankie and I finished stuff up at four, and headed home. I did some quick gift wrapping of their presents, and changed into some nicer clothes, did my hair, etc. I can clean up pretty fast when I need to. I wore a low cut velvet dress with bell sleves (actually, the dress I wore to my grade ten Christmas formal) over a longer purple velvet skirt, braided some of my hair to tie the rest back with as a hair band, threw on some light make-up and some boots, and I was ready to go in less than an hour. So, off I went, borrowing Jodie's lovely 100% dead animal Pimp Coat to complete my quasi-goth foodmas look.
I was pretty much 100% on time. I asked for the reservation for 3, and the hostess brought me to my seat, and I waited. About five minutes or so later, I saw Lisa peeking around the doorway, and I waved her over. She came in and sat down, and we chatted for about another five minutes before the hostess brought Frankie over. It was now about twenty to six. We sat, and chatted, and waited, and chatted, and looked at the menus that had been left on the table by whoever had set it up before I got there.... We saw a couple of waitresses... There were, in fact two other tables seated in the whole restaurant, and each of them seemed to have their own waitress. Since Frankie had been seated, no one had paid us any attention. No one had even so much as brought us some water. At six, we finally got completely fed up, and we just left. They didn't even seem to notice. So, never go there.
After that, we decided we might try the Lobster Hut, but apparently, they are closed on Mondays. So, we went back downtown, to The Blue Door, where we got served despite not having a reservation, and the food and service were both incredibly excellent, and Lisa gave me a Paderno mug filled with candy, and paid for the meal, and Frankie gave me some home made bread and promised that the rest of my present was coming after she got back from Ottawa. Lisa seemed to like her bear, and Frankie seemed happy with her copy of The Odyssey. In the end, a good time was had by all.
In fact, when dad and Jennifer drove me back to Fredericton today, and we found out that El Burrito Loco was closed, I suggested we try The Blue Door again. Everyone seemed pleased (We picked up Hazel at the apartment, conveniently just returned home early from work) with food and service, and I look forward to going there again. They also have good girly drinks.
The visit itself was very nice. I like a lot of Jennifer's family, and it is often amusing to watch them bicker over things small and large, because I don't *have* to be involved in anything. It is funny to watch Dad and Jennifer bicker too, for that matter. In any case, as soon as I got there, pretty much, I was stuffed full of food (mmm, phatire), and that evening we had roast cicken and shish kabobs, and Jennifer's sisters and nephew were all there. The next day (yesterday, even), we
went out in the early afternoon so that dad could buy a DVD player on sale (Zellers, 60$), and others could do a bit of hopping. I ran into Jason at the mall, which is really typical of the Miramichi experience: He was the only person in town at the time that I actually knew well enough to hold a conversation with, and I randomly ran into him the one time I was out. He has bought a truck, good for him ^-^. After this, we went home, and pretty much everyone read and napped the rest of the afternoon, into the evening. It seemed that most people were all too tired to come out and play (rummoli), so we wound up renting About Schmidtinstead, to test out the dvd player, and see how the surround sound worked out (very well. Also, my dad *hearts* Jack Nichleson). After that, I read some more (I finished two of my books... the Leiber and The Silent Gondoliers, but apparently I forgot the de Lint on my desk here, and the pirate book is a bit heavy to digest properly in a weekend), and stayed up talking to Jennifer's sister Mary, who is a hair artist (she looks kind of like a Jem Doll atm, with truly outreageous pink hair) from Montreal who does stuff all over the world, and is interesting if a bit strangely opinionated.
This morning, we went to Moncton, and I saw my aunt (father's sister) Barb and her husband Mike, and their little dog Duffer growled at me a lot. Then I came home, and there were cupcakes, and dinners out, and Joel, and Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and also Cannibal Lesbian Hoedown, and I suppose that really, those things are better than a silly old welcome mat ^-^
Also, I was given a bunch of kitchen-y things that belonged to my grandmother, including a cake carrier, some egg beaters, and a flour sifter. This is amusing, because I had just been having a conversation with my mother a few weeks ago about how dad was always for throwing stuff like that out because he couldn't see the value in it, and it frustrated her. Apparently, Jennifer was the same, because if it were up to him, he would have just tossed this stuff as well. Silly man ;p But she made him keep it until she could pawn it off onto us ^-^ I also picked up a bunch of cutlery from my aunt. And Matthew: It includes dinner spoons, teaspoons, and *dessert spoons*. So, ah, you can feel special or something.
Danielle was not home, so I didn't get to see her :(

(no subject)
... Frankie? Must be a nickname... I can't imagine anyone naming their daughter Frankie.
Dead Animal Pimp Coat... you know, I think they're gaining popularity again.
McGuiness' Landing: If you were seated at a four person table (seems typical for three person groups) than they might have thought you were still waiting for someone. Shoddy for a supposedly classy place.
Phatire? Shish Kabobs? Is Jennifer's family Lebanese or Middle Eastern?
Rummoli?
Jem. Truly Outrageous. "Truly, truly, truly outrageous." ;) One of my friends, she always remarks that the guy had blue stubble in one episode whenever the conversation somehow wanders close to there.
...
Welcome back. ;)
