So, I have been trying all afternooon (well, really since about 11:00) to get my eithernet card installed. Which means that I have been pestering [livejournal.com profile] f00daveall afternoon (since about 11:00). I am using the still-in-the package ethernet card that Hazel found downstairs, and am planning on returning the one I bought to the Co-Op. The first hassle was in findng the driver. I couldn;t find anything, not really knowing the make of the thing, so I had to scan it and send it to dave, who located stuff for me, and then sent me the zipped files. Then I had to clean off an old floppy disck so I could transfer them to the old computer. So, hazel, there is now a new directory in your 'pic's directory called 'old crap from disk' or something similar. I didn't know if you wanted any of it. Mostly old ffrpg-era SD scans before they were coloured. Delete at your leisure ^-^.

The I had to try and install the software, which meant finding my Win95 CD. And I thought I had! I found my Win95 *companion* CD, anyway ;p It didn't work so well when I tried to use it to get the drivers to work. My poor computer doesn't work at 8all* now :/ I can get it into safe mode by tricking it and not letting it load its drivers. but then, I can do much with it. I can't re-install 95, or even just install 98, because I can't access the cd-rom in that mode (no driver, see?) :p It is too old to let me boot from CD-rom and do ti that way. I think if I had a *real* win 95 CD, I could fix it by installing the ethernet driver with that. maybe. But I don't, so ti is a moot point, eh? :p It is funny that it *will* let me access the cd-rom to read stuff when installing, but I can't get to it any other way.

So, now, I am going to go take the stupid thing over to SuperDave to see what he can do with it. Whih is probably going to be clearing my harddrive on *his* computer(it is so tiny! I remember when 1 gig seemed like so much ^-^), and then installing 98 (probably). Now I need to find the codes and crap for my 98, which are with the manuals for my stole laptop (I tihnkn), which I do still own. I still have the laptop *case* too, for that matter...

I also found a zip drive backup of some of my files, which is nice. So I have an arhaeic version of my resume, at least, to work with. Bah, I say! Bah! That will be tomorrow's project, assuming this all works out.

Now I must get dressed, find manuals, and catch the bus. Must remember to bring story, as well. Arr.
Mood:: Bah!
