Lasty night I had my first shift at Galaxy. It was pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Their till could be used by a retarded monkey, same as their yogurt machines. They are a mildly cunty employer who tells you how nice they are all the time. The people around me are mostly young, and short. The girl who was trainign me, Harsha, was really nice, though, in a sort of naive, 'clean' kind of way. They all seem soft, and...fragile, that's the word I'm looking for.
There was one guy, who smacked of major prep. He was wearing a sweater, for which I mocked him. He had highlighted hair. I almost mocked him for that too. Apparently he is really sensitive about it. That shoudl make me *not* want to mock him, yet somehow... it does not. I will call him Ikea Boy... not *really* a Fight Club reference, unless I'm just better/differently understanding Tyler's use of the word. It is just that... well, this guy's image and fakey outgoingness seem to me to be covering for major insecurities and acceptance issues. Covering fairly well, though, but I can smell 'em a mile away. And it struck me that he is *like* ikea furniture.... it may be cool with yuppies and what not, but people who really know quality can see it for what it is. Scratch the surface, and find not a lot of depth. Maybe I'm just being judgemental. But if he were a truly confident person, my cracks about his sweater wouldn't have been taken so personally, I think.
While I'm talking about appearances, I want to talk about bellydancers. I love how it can take women of any bodytype and make them sexy. I think that even as far as the costuimes go, the styles are ones that celebrate curvyness as opposed to constraining it. Like, if you are wearing a low belt around your hips, as opposed to around your waist... a bulky stomach isn't cut up. You don't get folds of fat hanging out... The curves are supported. I'm never sure if I am explaining things well. So, look at some pictures! ^-^ These are from a girl who posts in
bellydance. They are drawings, but you can still see how a full figure is accentuated by the costumes. Also, dance imporves posture, and ther rounded movements also add to the effect. I have seen so many 'large' dancers who are just amazing hen they dance So beautiful...
Now, I need to work on finishing C's birthday present so I can send it when I go to the gym later, arr!
