What does your first name mean? Heather. It's a plant. Some people might call it a flower, but it is really more like a shrub.
What does your middle name mean? Light, apparently. I had to look it up online.
What does your last name mean? Lots of things. A kind of doorway, emerging from an egg, shading with crossed lines, to devise of invent, an opening into or seam of a mine, or to spot or stain ("His weapon hatched in blood"). Really quite a versitile word, I think.
So, what does your name mean when put together? Could be lots of thing, with that last name... How about a flower/shrub...dare I say, bush of light that emerges from an eggg? I dare, lets mix some mythologies ;D Or a light flower shaded with lines? Hmmm... arty ;)
What would you have been named if you were the opposite gender? I'm not sure, but I'll guess Douglas, since it is a traditional name on my mom's side of the family (going back far into antiquity. There are even female Douglases... something I'm sure my mom is glad her parents didn't discover until after *her* birth, as that would have been her name has she been a boy), and it is also one of my dad's middle names. I may also have wound up with four names instead of three, since that was a tradition from his parents(I *think* just for boys).
Any other name oddities? Woot! Here we go! Most of you know that my sister's name is 'Hazel'. Now, if you look in 99 out of 100 baby name books, those two names are going to be listed one after another 'Hazel' then 'Heather', even sometimes when they aren't separated into girls and boys. Our parents claim that this is *purely* coincidental. Personally, I think the coincidence went a little bit like this. "Oh, we need to pick baby names. We already used my grandmother's name (Hazel), but I got us a baby book to look at." "Oh, lets look up Hazel, to see what it says, or if it is even in there!" "Okay! Hmmm, yup, there it is. Hazel: a plant. Hey, what's that next name? Heather? Also a plant. Well, that's pretty, works for me!" "Me too." "Good investment, that baby name book." ":p"
Hazel and I also have the same middle initial (E), so when you put out initials together, it becomes a private joke: heh heh.
Do you like your name It serves its purpose.
What do you like best about it Nothing especially comes to mind at the moment. I kind of like the sound of it all strung together, and I really like my middle name. I have considered at different points, where it might have been appropriate (like when I went to England) going by it instead, but, I was never really motivated.
What do you like least about it? How common it is. There are too many other Heathers around. I can be in a group of ten people, and one of them will be a Heather. There is *always* another Heather. Also, some people are too creative in coming up with name plays on it when I was younger, and that has always made me bitter. People who call me 'heifer' are likely to get attacked with forks or worse :p
If you *had* to change your name (witness protection program or something) what would you want it to be? I really have no idea. Maybe Elanya, or Saren. I give all the cool names I think of to characters, though, and it seems kind of hugely geeky to name yourself/children after gaming charcters. I don't think there has ever been a name that I *really* wanted to be called. Maybe Elenore.
