Nero-tic, part Deux

Yesterday, Bob Orci, one of the Star trek writers, was brave enough to volunteer to answer questions about the movie on a fan board. See here! I would recommend just doing a find on page for his answers, rather than wading through the million repetitive questions that didn't all get answered. I have to say, he left me with a favorable impression, even if I didn't like all his answers. i did appreciate his sense of humor and how he deals with nitpicky fans though! :D

So then, what I'm really interested in is what did we learn about Nero?

1. Countdown was written *after* the movie was shot - it was like an elaboration in reverse, and this is why it conflicts a little bit in some places.

2. Bob Orci doesn't consider the comic canon because it wasn't on screen, but he seems to be deferring to the fans on this point, and to the generally accepted definition of cannon.

3. Going along with this, the Rura Penthe stuff isn't canon either.

4. Bob Orci wants me to write fanfic. Okay he said that what Nero and co. were doing for 25 years was fertile fanfic ground. Which is just about the same, right? He used an exclamation point, that counts as encouragement ;)

5. We should get some of the cut scenes on DVD

6. Star Trek was filmed during the writer's strike. if this had ot been the case, the writers would have had a chance to write a more condensed version of the scenes with the Klingons that could have been included in the film, as opposed to the stuff that was filmed and then cut because it was too long and so forth. Damn you writer's strike!

There are some good/bad things here.... But I'm generally satisfied :)
