mmmm... cookies....
Aunt Ruby's Molasses cookies
3/4 c shortening
1 c white sugar
1/4 c molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking SODA
2 c flour
1/2 tsp each of cloves, salt, ginger & cinnamon
Melt shortening over low heat, add sugar& molasses & let cool. Add egg & beat well. Mix dry ingred together & add to molasses mixture. Chill 1 hour. Form into 1" balls, roll in sugar. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar on greased baking sheet about 2" apart. Bake at 370 8 - 10 minutes.
You don't usually have to grease the sheet more than once. Watch them carefully, they scorch easily.
You can also roll into logs about 1" diameter, wrap in saran wrap, freeze, then slice & cook later. Or, just slice and *eat* later. yum. And I even have molasses imported especially for the purpose ^-^
