Left and right index fingers go on the 'f' and the 'j' keys respectively. You may notice little tabs on your keyboard on those keys. The remainder of your fingers rest on the keys horizontally outwards from there. You can reach a row up or down and notice that there's an easy key for each digit that will let you cover all the outlying letters. Thumb for the spacebar (either). The stuff in between (rest of letters) is usually handled by the index fingers.
