For a top - I guess from what you've said you want a bare midriff? Then how about a fitted crop top? Tailor a close fitting top to go OVER a bra you already have.

OR, depending on how adventurous you're feeling (and how well your boobs would co-operate) how about a heavy duty band running just below your bust and covered in your pretty fabric. Then attach two long thin rectangles gathered into the band (possibly with a slight overlap) at the front, which you could tie behind your neck as a halter neck. Might take some experimentation in calico first but I'm pretty sure you're up to the job...
