Snagged from
mouseme, who snagged it from
otterdance, who is apparently Lynn Flewelling, which is keen. I like it when authors I like have accessible web presences :)
1. One book that changed your life
That's hard to pin down. I'm going to say the big red Betty Crocker cookbook we had when I was young - though I use Joy of Cooking more now, that is the book from which a lot of my staple recipes now come. I remember it fondly, and it helped instill my love to bake.
2. One book that you've read more than once.
Most of my Terry Pratchett collection! If you want to be specific, I'll go with Guards! Guards!. I could put some non-fiction on here too
3. One book you'd want on a desert island
Though, as Phnee said, the whole bit about a 'book on how to build boats' has been done, I can helpfully recommend a title: Wooden Ship Building and the Interpretation of Shipwrecks by Dick Steffy. Okay, so it isn't a step-by-step but it would give you a lot of options ;) I wouldn't actually ant that book, though. I'd rather have a blank book to write in, I think. If i've got something to read, I'll go for short stories - maybe the brothers Grimm.
4. One book that made you laugh
The Unfortunate Misadventures of Lieutenant Martin Jerrold - like a nautical Flashman.
5. One book that made you cry
Oh man- one of the books I was reading for my history course this term really struck me at one point, but not i can't remember which. Fiction rarely makes me cry - i can't think of anythig off the top of my head.
6. One book that you wish had been written
The personal Journal of Captain Howell Davis, Pirate. or really any pirate journal - that would be most convenient ;)
7. One book that you wish had never been written
I'm tempted to say The chariots of the Gods by Erich van Danniken, as its been on my mind since the last Indy movie, but then who would we make fun of for having crazy theories in Archaeology? Nah, is' probably still a decent choice - there are plenty of other laughable pseudo-archaeologies out there :V
8. One book you;re currently reading
The Many-Headed Hydra: Sailors, Slaves, Commoners, and the Hidden History of the Revolutionary Atlantic by Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker. A very Marxist influenced history, but really well researched and put together, and a lot of food for thought. I'm almost done!
9. One book you've been meaning to read
The Oracle Queen by [Unknown site tag] :x Since last year, as said above :x
10. Bonus question - What book scared you the most?
I don't know about *the most*, but I read a book about a girl whose father got Alzheimer's back when I was in grade five or six, and it terrified me. I wish I could remember the title - google fu fails me. I could probably put it in the 'made me cry' category, for that matter. I remember one scene where, early in the disease's progressions, the main character's dad (Amy?) picked her up from summer camp... But he couldn't remember how to start the car. The author conveyed the sheer frustration of it, and his daughter's confusion and fear, so well that it's really stuck with me.
