For some reason, earlier today, I absolutely could not get the Terrier song from Kids in the Hall out of my hed. I mean, yes, I did happen to pass a fairly distinctive terrier, but Im not convinced that this was reason enough.
In any case, my day went quite well :D I stopped in at Lisa's for breakfast on my way to the Art gallery, and then got a litle talk about some of the pieces in the Carmichael exibit (he is a group of seven guy, but one of the purposes of this exibit was to look examine his work outside of that context, and so the exhibit focussed on his spirituality). And The Dali... I'd never gotten a *formal* explanation of it, and even if Adda was a bit rushed, I still got more insight. Or maybe, I have gotten more formal interpretations, but it has been so long I forgot, or else their focus was different. We also looked at some of their medieval religious pieces, and the docent (Anna) talked about how different saints were recognizable by the items they carried, so that anyone could identify them. I did already know that, but I did learn about the emblems of a few specific saints that I wasn't familiar with before. Also, Mary, if you are reading this, there was a painting by Botticelli there called The ressurection that was Christ holding a banner with the red cross on a white background... you know the one, I'm sure. And two armoured knights at his feet, ind of prostrate. We were told that the flag is supposed to represent ressurection itself, but I am curious as to how that all ties in with the Templar iconography you were studying. Anyway, that was neat.
After that, I needed food, and although I had told the Out 2 Lunch crew that I might be back for lunch, I didn't really feel like eating there, mostly because the lunch special was going to be especially starchy. So I decided to stop by Jodie's new place of employment (Samba Brazil), and check them out. Also, I wanted to say 'hi' if I could, and see if I could eavesdrop on how bad the kitchen folks were being at that point. They did seem awfully surly, to each other, but at least the person I was talking to seemed to be capable of friendlyness to customers, and she complimented my hair, so what can I say? I hope her second day there went better than her first, is what I can say. I did get a chance to say hi for a bit, but I didn't want to get her in trouble, and I suspect she felt the same, so it was a brief exchange. My review: The pizza is quite good, but nothing I couldn't live without.
My afternoon classes, the first year course, left me in a more positive mood this afternoon than they did on Tuesday. Again, I didn't manage to fill the whole time alloted, but that was partly the nature of the work that was being done. I had them split up into small groups to talk about the readings they had been doing. In the first class, this is what the professor had actually requested: that they split up and try and think up a definition of religion. Of course, since the reading they had done basically told them this wasn't going to be very easy, or necessarily useful, it met with mixed results. Some people, who hadn't done the readings, just left. I decided that I should not take this personally, because it is a waste of their money, but in this case, not of my time. I still don't understand people who don't pay attention in class, or even bother to attend, when they are paying to be there... In the second class, the proff had suggested that one thing they might do was 'group work on the readings', and since this meant I wouldn't have to do another lecture proper, I thought it sounded like a good plan ^-^. The readings they had were slightly different than the other class (nothing about trying to define religion), so I structured it accordingly. I had them just talk about the readings,m but instead of this just being a chance for them to discuss stuff, I made explict that this was also an academic exercise, or an exercize in critical thinking, that would help them learn what they can expect in higher level classes, and so on. Again, except for the ones who left (and meh on them), it went rather well, and even some students who hadn't done the readings were able to get something out of it (even if it is just that it pays to do the readings ;). So I was quite pleased.
I sang myself home, and then did the dishes. I have no idea what to do for supper :O tomorrow, I work at the Booth in the evening, but have errands I should do the rest of the day. Anyone want to keep me company? I need to get groceries, and do laundry, among other things.
Again, no idea what to do for supper, and no one else is home yet to inspire me with their culinary magic. Maybe I'll call someone... I have time to kill until Perseity, anyway.
