Todayu I worked. Work was okay, as far as work goes, even though for some reason, none of us took any breaks. Why? I don't know. We just never did :o Also, a lot of people were late. I'm only *supposed* to come in at nine (though the schedule always says 8, the nobs) because of the buses, but a lot of others were late because they forgot about Daylight Savings time. Arr. Also, for no reason *I* can discern, I only come it at nine next Thursday. There were no managers around to ask about that, either. It is a mystery....
On to the fun things! And a bit of frustration. Tonight was the dance party for the students ofHaft Vadi Studio(that page it very out of date, but it does have the current newsletter...). It was *supposed* to be at the Waterloo Community Arts Centre. Joel and I left here at 6:20 to be there for a bit before 7, we hoped. A little ways up the street, I realized I had forgotten a very important accessory for any hafla-esque situation: my camera! So I gave him my stuff, and sent him on ahead,. knowing (or at least, thinking) that I walk a lot faster than him, so I might be able to catch him up. Now, this is important. I handed my backpack over to him to carry for me. I guess I was thinking that it might slow me down, but I think now that that line of reasoning was a bit on crack. I mean, really. All it had in it was some clothes :o Anyway, I fetched the camera, and double-timed it back up the street. Then I remembered two other things. Dharlene had asked us to contribute a couple of dollars if we could to pay for renting the space, and someone had suggested bringing snacks. So I ran through sobeys to stop at the bank machine and pick up some cookies to make change, and killed two birds with one stone. Then I hustled onwards.
I admit that I didn't know *exactly* where I was going, but I had an idea of how to get there. So I took the route that I thought made the most sense. I got to the place, and found a note saying that the party had been moved to the regular studio. I did not find Joel.
I admit I was pretty annoyed at that point. I mean, he had my stuff, and even if he didn't remember where the studio was (he'd gone with me to scout it out before I started taking classes) he knew I did. I just got home a little while ago, and he was in the shower, so I haven't had a chance to ask him yet. I suspect that he started walking back home, and just took a different route, and we missed each other.
Anyway, I walked the long way to the bus stop, and didn't see him along the way. So I called and left a message that I had gone anyway (and that he was a dumbass for not waiting for me. I dunno if that got passed along or not ^-^). I waited and took the bus, and eventually got there, with cookies! Yay!
The 'party' was basically a chance for the students of Dharlene's different classes to show off the choreographies they had learned, or solo stuff for more advanced students. Even though I didn't have my costume, I danced with my calss anyway. Dharlene lent me her huge, gorgeous, coined 'scarf' (it hangs to the floor!) to dance in, since she felt bad about not being able to get ahold of me. She doesn't have my phone number, only my e-mail... I told her she should have just e-mailed me and she was like"....yes, I should have :o" Ahh, well. I wore the scarf proudly over my green corduroy 'laundry pants' (mental note: do wahing tomorrow!). It mostly went well, except that I went in the wrong direction at one point, and half the other people did too. heh. I have the power! ^-^ I got to see a couple of other classes do the same choreography... one of them had to do it one and a half times, because the cd skipped ;) Some of the solos were really really amazing. There was one girl (Allanah?) who had just bought an absolutely *gorgeous* professional dance costume. I'm stealing the skirt idea for my fire thing. Her routine was also really good, and she has good performance charisma too (lots of happy 'I'm having fun!' smiles) Another girl (Steph?) did a cool solo to a piece of music off a new cd that she chose in the car. And it was really good! I took some pictures, but got none of our troop... didn't thik of it until too late.
After all the performances, Dharlene demonstrated a few basic moves, and intited everyone to dance! So, of course I did! I am a mad dancing machine, don'tcha know! ^-^ Unfortunately, I got pulled away by a nice lady who was offering me a drive home. As much as I like to dance, I don't like to walk home all the way from the studio with only a leather coat when it is minus whatever. So I said bye to Dharlene (she gave me a hug!) and off I went. I can't wait to start intermediate classes :o
I think tomorroiw, or later tonight, I will do a mini-version of this for the bellydance community. I don't really post there enough. I'm such a naughty lurker...
