One year ago, I was preparing to sleep on a bed with a plastic mattress cover, no sheets, blankets, or pillow, bundled up in a bunch of sweaters, wskirts and so on, spending my first night in Sheffield.

I may be finished with my dissertation tomorrow, if I'm really good. Not counting the printing and binding.

A year and a day, that's the usual contract isn't it?
