I'm not the pie queen that my sister is. However I really wanted squash pie last weekend for thanksgiving. Due to my workload, however, I had to delay. Instead I made pie today! I just cut the first piece. I is okay, but a bit thin/watery. I halved the recipe, but I think I didn't put in enough eggs. I think that halving this recipe needs three whole eggs, not the 2 1/2 I tried to estimate (I needed a half egg for the crust as well, and thought it would work out :p). Or maybe the squash itself was too watery - I'm not sure :/ Better luck next time!

I did, however, cook just the right amount of squash and had exactly the right amount of custard, and I think my crust is quite good as well. I usually roll it a bit too think, but it all turned out this time :)

In other news, I watched the third episode of Heroes, the new NBC show (on Sci-Fi), last night, and was pretty impressed. There are a lot of characters and plotlines, and some very pretty people. I am currently yubbing the first two eps so that I can catch up what I've missed.

It has Adrian Pasdar, running for (mayor?) D: But he has a brother... I still can't think of anything but Profit :o
I also really like the new Decemberists album, which i should properly own probably on Monday or Tuesday ;)

I am really hoping that what you call Squash Pie is what we call Pumpkin Pie and that you do not call squash what we call squash or I am going to be violently ill. (yes. I'm aware that pumpkin is a squash. That is why I have hope.)

Squash is superior to pumpkin in pie as well as all other forms. Heathen.

Squash is disgusting and borders on the inedible! Also it smells funny.

I never had squash pie until I had some their mother made. It was delicious. Really and truly, squash is a more sensible vegetable for pie because it is sweeter than pumpkin.

Anyway, it tastes exactly like pumpkin pie to me. So don't knock it until you've tried it! ^-^

I am intrigued and frightened by this outpouring of support for the squash.

See, squash *borders* on inedible. But in fact, people actually do it eat in many forms.

Pumpkin, on the other hand, is only ever consumed in baked good form.

The *rational* explanation is that Squash is thwe superior vegetable. Ergo, baked goods made with squash insted of pumpkin are also superior.

Q.E.D.

^-^

...damn. That actually appears to be solid logic.

I made 2 pies today (apple & apple-berry), applesauce, and double apple muffins (fat free, watch for them on bx3 when I've had time to take pictures)!

Thanksgiving was last weekend?

I thought it was sometime in November?

*confused*

Canadian Thanksgiving is generally the first weekend in October. American Thanksgiving is in November. I'm not really sure why they are different :o

Canadians are so polite that you have to get your thanks in good and early??

OK, that works as an explanation too!

What our people call "Thanksgiving", your people call "Columbus Day". ^_^

I don't think my people called it anything other than 'the weekend'.. I'm English :)

Adrian Pasdar? As in, this guy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0664499/), the hero from Near Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093605/)? Wow. I didn't realize.

If your filling is watery, try putting the oven on the lowest setting above warm (usually 200 degrees) and letting your pie cook a little longer until the water evaporates out. Voila, no more watery filling.
